Good evening everyone

Two updates from Plymouth Citybus

First of all, following on from the service updates, here is some more news regarding those in Saltash:

From 3rd July 2016 your new Green Flash service 5 will be serving Saltash.

This will provide direct links to Devonport, City Centre and Plymstock.

The current £13 one week route ticket available on 5/5A Green Flash and 21/21A Red Flash will now extend to Saltash on this service.

The Saltash Saver ticket will be withdrawn from Saturday 25/06/16.

Passengers wishing to travel on 10/11/11A/12 will need to purchase standard zone products.

And one for those that use the 46 (Plymouth Citybus):

Due to the collapsed cattle grid at Mary Tavy toward Brentor, from 29th June 2016 we will be operating a shuttle service on behalf of Devon County Council between Brentor War Memorial and Lydford War Memorial.

The main service 46 will operate along the A386 to Downton, turn into Lydford and turn at the War Memorial and meet up with the shuttle service to transfer passengers. This will be operated in both directions between Okehampton and Tavistock.

This service will operate Monday to Saturday.

We will return to normal service once we have been Informed that the cattle grid has been replaced

More news from Stagecoach, but this time it concerns the Armed Forces Weekend

Good evening everyone

Here is some information regarding the Armed Forces Weekend.

Stagecoach South West is helping to support Armed Forces Day 2016.
On Saturday 25 June the company will be offering free travel to armed forces personnel carrying a military ID card and to veterans carrying a veteran’s badge, or those in uniform.
Armed Forces Day is a chance for the public to show support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community: from currently serving troops to Service families, veterans and cadets.
With events planned in the South West it is hoped that personnel will take up the offer to travel with us to the event of their choice.
Stagecoach South West Managing Director Bob Dennison said; “We are delighted to be showing support for the Armed Forces communities in the South West in this way. By providing free travel to military personnel we hope to be able to give a well deserved morale boost for our local troops.”
Last year, Stagecoach Group signed the Ministry of Defence’s Armed Forces Corporate Covenant in support of the Armed Forces Community. As a signatory of the Covenant, the company recognises the value serving personnel; regular and reservists, veterans and military families contribute to both the country and businesses across the country.

Back in the Day: Who remembers 'The Purple 6'?

Good evening everyone

When First Devon&Cornwall (as they were then called) were still in Plymouth, they used to have a 'Purple 6' (which got terminated prior to the sale of operation. A thing about this route is that each journey was only a quid (£1)

Just a quickie

Good evening everyone

It's been a quiet day and no significant news regarding the buses

Hope to give a full length post tomorrow

Bring on a 'school bus' ... which once spent life with Plymouth Citybus

PUPILS will be able to conduct their own fun courtesy of a donated double decker bus.
Cash-strapped Colne Community School and College was forced to think outside the box when it needed a new common room.
So executive principal Nardeep Sharma contacted Hedingham buses' engineering boss Jeff Coward for help.
The bus Hedingham donated has been driven to the school's grounds where it will be permanently parked up.
It is open for pupils aged 11 and 12 who are in year seven to sit in at break and lunch times.
Mr Sharma said: “We are using the bus as a social space because the Building Schools for the Future programme was pulled by the coalition Government.
“We have leaking roofs and we have got nowhere for the children to go.
“They will be supervised on the bus, there are going to be CCTV cameras and prefects on duty.
“There is no social space for the children at the moment. The number of students at The Colne is due to increase in the future. We are hoping to expand our fleet of buses to four to five - one for each year group – in the future.”
Mr Sharma said Hedingham had “come up trumps again” for the school.
It previously stepped in to ensure new students had discounted bus travel.
Essex County Council, which was funding the free transport, decided to axe the service for pupils travelling further than their nearest school.
The low-floor double decker Volvo bus (582) started its life in London and joined the Hedingham fleet last year.
At 16 years-old, it has been retired from service and was delivered to the school for free.
Mr Coward said: “We like to support communities which we are part of, and we were delighted to be in a position to help The Colne Community School and College. This has been an interesting project, which will bring benefits to the school for a long time to come.”

You might wonder why it is on Buses around Plymouth. This is because the bus involved used to be Plymouth Citybus #450.

Some news from Stagecoach South West

Good evening everyone
Here is a news article from the Stagecoach South West website for those that got affected during Tuesday night.

We were asked by the event organisers to provide additional park and ride services to serve last night's* Rod Stewart concert.
The issues at Coypool Park & Ride were caused by queuing traffic on the approach to the site which meant our buses got caught up both trying to enter and exit the site. As soon as we became aware of the issues, we added in extra buses to get everybody moving.
We would welcome a meeting with all parties involved as soon as possible to discuss how things could run more smoothly for future events.
* This article was written on the 8th June and refers to the Rod Stewart concert the preceding evening

PCTPG Update May 2016

Good evening everyone

Here is the PCTPG update from May 2016

214’s brakes have had some time spent on them and as a result they are working a lot better. The rear brakes weren’t working at all and were completely seized up. They have now been freed and greased up. In the future, in order to be fit enough for an MOT they will need to be completely stripped but this will be done when it’s time for an MOT. The engine repairs, in particular to the diesel pump, has been finished off and a new seal had to be sourced and fitted to fix a fuel leak which had developed in it. Inside, the regency cream panelling up the staircase, as well as the crimson side panels below the upper deck windows have been sanded down, revealing some very colourful graffiti! This is in preparation for repainting during June. The original seat frames have also started to be rubbed down which is a lengthy process in itself as there are 28 to do in total. Over the next few months these will be repainted and fitted back onto the bus.
