Bus News Around Plymouth 039
Good evening everyone
Here is the first Bus News Around Plymouth in 2017
With no new news as such, let's recap on the recent timetable information about recently introduced and upcoming bus services.
Stagecoach South West (https://www.stagecoachbus.com/service-updates/serviceupdatesarticle?SituationId=ID-09/12/2016-11:41:30:500)
Route X38Due to an on-going decline in use following the introduction of Stagecoach Gold between South Brent, Ivybridge and Plymouth, and the South West Falcon between Plymouth, Drumbridges, Exeter and beyond, the number of journeys on this route will be reduced.
Peak journeys to both Exeter and Plymouth will remain in place for commuters and college students, supplemented by off peak shopping trips during the daytime. Certain journeys will be financially supported by Devon County Council with passengers in Buckfastleigh and Ashburton in mind, although regular links remain in place from these locations on route 88 to Newton Abbot and Totnes. The South West Falcon provides a faster and more comprehansive 24/7 service between Plymouth City Centre and Exeter (connecting with the Park & Ride at Sowton or Honiton Road).
To provide an extra bit of luxury for no additional cost, the X38 will be operated using Stagecoach Gold specification vehicles whenever possible, offering high back leather seats, extra legroom and free passenger WiFi.
Plymouth Citybus (https://www.plymouthbus.co.uk/news-service-updates/network-change-2nd-and-9th-january-2017/)
Service 43 Orange Flash
New branding ans revised frequency: City Centre to Ernesettle will see the introduction of 5 MAN Gas buses to the route and will become the newest flash brand to Plymouth. Along with the new buses the route will see an amended timetable with buses departing every 15 minutes. Along with the Yellow Flash this will provide a frequency every 7/8 minutes from Victoria Road to City Centre.
-
Service 70/71
Due to an additional school contract being awarded to Citybus in the Rame area we have had to make some minor adjustments to our timetable in the Morning and Afternoon. Although this will have minimal impact on the timetable, the most notable change will see the 07:40 departure from Insworke (08:20 from HMS Raleigh) now serve Union Street on its way into the City Centre. This Journey will not serve the Railway Station.
The Journey that is due to run through Stoke Village at 08:52 arriving on Royal Parade at 09:07 will still be served using an alternative vehicle starting from Pottery Quay.
-
Service 72/73 A387 Road Closure 8th January to 13th April 2017
Due to the road closure above the service 73 will have a revised timetable between the above dates. This will also include a diversion from Sandplace via Morval and Widegates before arriving in Looe. The 72 will also see the removal of the Sunday service but this will be covered by the 73 revised Sunday Timetable during this road closure.
Other changes
Target Travel 46/46S/47/47S - New timetables on traveline.sw. The VOSA notices on the Plymothian Transit calendar mention timetable changes.
National Express 504 - Timetable on traveline.sw. The VOSA notices on the Plymothian Transit calendar again mention timetable changes.

Here are my bus predictions for 2017
Plymouth Citybus
- New double deckers (Wright Streetdecks, ADL Enviro 400MMC?)
- Withdrawal of the remaining ex-London double deckers and possibly some of the Brighton ones because of these new double deckers
- A futher batch of second hand single deckers to replace some of the Dennis Darts and for use on a new or existing coloured 'Flash' route
- The remaining buses in the liveries dating from when Plymouth City Council owned Citybus and the ones in the 2011 livery will be repainted into swoops
Stagecoach South West
- There will be a new 'Gold' route at some stage this year
- A few second hand buses will enter the fleet
- The 2/2A will have a route alteration at some stage this year
Target Travel
- More newer buses to enter the fleet (such as another mini or full length ADL Enviro 200, an Optare Solo (original, maybe SR).
- At least one new route (possibly taking over a route from another company)
Other operators
- Jacketts Coaches: reduced presence in Plymouth
- Tally Ho: no change in Plymouth
- Countrybus: no change in Plymouth

One year of Buses around Plymouth
Good evening everyone
It has been one year since I started the blog
Let's start off with the very first words from the very first post
'A brand new year, a brand new blog'
http://www.busesaroundplymouth.co.uk/2016/01/an-evolution-of-stagecoach-in-plymouth.html
Quite a lot has happened in the year. For example Stagecoach have their Enviro MMCs, Plymouth Citybus have more Enviros and MANs and Target Travel has newer buses too. And also not to forget the bus running day in July. What a good year it is has been for the blog. Who knows what will happen in 2017?
Stay tuned throughout the year for more information.
